A Few Words About Security

Please take a minute to read the following consumer safety tips about online shopping. At Rage To Read we dedicate a lot of time and resources to online safety, but we also know that shoppers need to be prepared.

1. Know your Merchant:
It's a good practice to be familiar with the name or reputation of any company you're dealing with. Since going online in 1998, Rage To Read has served tens of thousands of customers without a single case of a shoppers personal information or credit card data being leaked. We are proud to be recognized as a Top Merchant by Yahoo! customers who have ranked us a merchant. For more information, you can often find helpful information about online companies from Internet news sources, directories, and rating services. The Federal Trade Commission also maintains a web site (www.consumer.gov) that provides many buyer's guides, lists of tips, and links to helpful resources.

2. Be sure your Internet connection is secure.
Many web sites use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology to encrypt the credit card information that you send over the Internet. These sites usually inform you they are using this technology. Or, check if the web address on the page that asks for your credit card information begins with "https:" instead of "http:" if so, this technology is in place. A different security technology, which works on different principles, is Secure Electronic Transaction, or SET, technology. SET or SSL technology are designed to make your connection secure.

Other ways to tell whether a web site uses security software:

  • Your browser displays the icon of a locked padlock at the bottom of the screen (Netscape Navigator™; - versions 4.0 and higher);

  • You see the icon of an unbroken key at the bottom of the screen (earlier versions of Netscape Navigator™);

  • You see the icon of a lock on the status bar (Microsoft Internet Explorer®).

3. Use a Credit Card
It's a good practice to pay with credit cards, because under federal law (and your credit card agreement) your liability for an unauthorized charge is limited to $50. Again, when using a credit card online, look for an unbroken key or padlock (a graphical icon usually located in the bottom corner of the web page), or for a policy that indicates use of strong security technology such as SSL. This indicates that your credit card data is transmitted securely.

4. Protect your privacy:
Know what information merchants collect about you, how it will be used, and if they share it with or sell it to others. You can do this by checking our privacy policy. Be cautious if you're asked to supply personal information not needed to make a purchase, such as your Social Security number or personal bank account information. Of course, at Rage To Read you will never be asked for any information other than what is necessary to process your subscriptions.

5. Get the Details:
Check for expected delivery dates, shipping and handling fees (there are none at Rage To Read, warranties, return policies, and other important information. Look for an email address to write to (or a phone number to call) if you have a question, a problem, or if you need help. We can always be reached at 888-776-7323, at or at our online Customer Service Center.

6. Keep Good Records:
Make sure to print or save electronically any records related to your online transactions. This will help you keep track of shipping dates, shipping and handling fees, and other details of your transactions. Rage To Read will also send you an automatic email confirmation when you place your order, so be sure to enter your email address carefully and correctly.
